FRANCE -0/27- MARKET

(2009-11-30)

We stopped at a village (I’m sorry that I don’t remember the name of the village).
Ito-chan and Mike-san went to a restroom.
The village had a market, so I looked around there.

Since I arrived at France, I really wanted to visit a market because one of my images of France was a ‘market’.

They had fresh fruits and vegetables. They seemed really delicious.
And they were colorful, so those colors were pleasure to the eye.
They also sold, ‘clothes’, ‘meat’, shoes’, ‘flowers’, and ‘cheese’, etc.
I stopped at each shop and looked at them.

It was really excited.

A man sold roasted chestnuts. I stared at it, and then the man gave me one of them.
I usually eat ‘Tenshin-amaguri’, but I don’t eat roasted chestnuts.
It was hot and sweet.
I liked but I didn’t buy it, because I didn’t have a bag and I still had a long journey.

We biked again and headed to the last destination, Chateauneuf-du-Pape.
The last part of the road was rough.
I could see a vineyard.
It was really big, so I couldn’t see the border of the vineyard.
I could also see some signs of wineries.
They told us that the goal would come soon.

FRANCE -10/27- VISITING SMALL VILLAGES

(2009-11-29)
DSC00053.jpg

Do you like European paintings?

I like European arts very much.
But after I visited France, I became to like them more and more.

We visited some villages.
I don’t know why, but all of them were built on hills.
So getting there by bike was really hard for me.

When I biked, sometimes I saw villages in the distance.

I have known I probably would visit that area, but I didn’t want to believe it.

However, I followed the direction card, and then a large hill stood in front of me.

Climbing hills by bike was really hard.

However, all villages were really beautiful.
They seemed to have a long history, and any villages had a restaurant, a church, and cute houses.
That was the one which I had seen on European pictures.

The sky was high, clear, and deep blue.
This weather made me happy.

So, before I visited the villages, I didn’t want to visit there.
But after I visited villages, I was very satisfied.

Afterwards, I visited several museums in Paris.
And the European pictures weren’t just pictures for me.
I cannot explain well, but before I visited the villages, the pictures were 2-D, but now they are 3-D.
My feeling is like that.

FRANCE -10/27- AN ACCIDENT

(2009-11-28)
I imaged I was an actress but I couldn’t behave as an actress.

When I turn around by bike, I fell down.
I was stupid.

When I got off a bike, I had thought I couldn’t get off well.
I didn’t know why.

And when I fell down, I knew the reason.

The length of my jacket was too long, so the hem of the jacket hooked the saddle.

It was the reason which I couldn’t get off the bike well and I fell down the bike…

I grazed my knee. I was really sad…

Ito-chan had a first-aid kit and treated me…
Thank you, Ito-chan.

Afterwards, she shot my video but I had no energy to behave as an actress….

FRANCE -10/27- CYCLING 1

(2009-11-27)
DSC00054.jpg
We looked at a direction card and ran by bike. Sometimes we walked by bike.
I mean roads were too steep for us, and walking was faster than riding bike…

By the way, what is the direction card???

I don’t know what it is exactly…

The tour company gave us a book. I call it a ‘direction card’.
On that book, there isn’t a useful map.
It only says, ‘turn right at the 100m point’, ‘turn right at ‘XXX’ sign’, or something…

The tour conductor said the book was perfect.
However, it wasn’t perfect for us.

First, the ‘kilometers’ on the book wasn’t the same as my computer’s.
Even if the book said, “Turn right at the 2.0 km”, we weren’t sure if we turn right or not.

And second, there were many mistakes of road signs on the book.
Road numbers, name of village, etc.
I had to be like Sherlock Holmes.

Mike-san always ran the top of our group.
I am a person who has no sense of direction.
I ran between Mike-san and Ito-chan and this part was really helpful for me.

At the 6.0km point, there was a Y-fork where we had to turn left.
But there were some Y-forks around that point and we were not sure that that point was the one which we had to turn left.

Mike-san went to check the next point, so Ito-chan and I were waiting at the Y-fork.

There was a beautiful grape field there, so Ito-chan said that she shot my video.

We wanted to make a commercial film at that area.

I ran through the grape field as a bike racer!!

I wanted to behave like that!!

FRANCE -10/27- LET'S GO TO CHATEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE

(2009-11-26)
DSC00051.jpg

On October 27.
It was the first day of cycling.
That day’s course was visiting Chateauneuf-Du-Pape.
Chateauneuf -Du-Pape is famous with wine and there are many wineries and vineyards there.

The total distance was 55.7kilometers.

A trip meter(a computer) of bike was really important in this trip, so we reset it ‘0’ and started riding.
But only a few meters later, we had to stop, because the trip meter didn’t work well.
We got back to the start line and ran again.

We visited several small villages until we got to Chateauneuf-du-Pape.
And I gave up only the first part of this trip.

We passed through several villages until we got to Chateauneuf-duPape.

We ran along a wide road, it was a national road I think, and many cars passed through us.
The road wasn’t rough but really steep.
But it wasn’t the last steep road in that tour…

FRANCE -10/26-LE SAINT ANDRE

(2009-11-25)
20091027034656(1).jpg

At night, we ate dinner at the restaurant 'Le Saint Andre'.
That dinner was included in the cycling tour.

Villeneuve-lez-Avignon isn’t a big village but there are many restaurants there.
Le Saint Andre was a cute restaurant.
The basic color of the restaurant was white, so its image was clean.
Some customers have already been eating dinner when we got there.
They gave us a menu but we couldn’t read it.
I looked at the menu and an electronic dictionary at the same time.
I think I ordered ‘duck’, but I don’t remember what I ate.
I only remembered my dessert.
It was a fruits-tart.
It was too sweet but really good.
The cookie of the tart wasn’t too thick and there were many fruits on the cookie.

Surprisingly, that restaurant was published in Michelin Guide.
In Japan, Michelin Guide is like a God, and it is a big status that it is carried by Michelin guide.
But that restaurant seemed NOT so special.
I mean that anybody can visit that restaurant even if they aren’t rich.

A cat was welcoming customers.
She was cute. I wanted to pet her but she didn’t like me…
I was really sad…

FRANCE -10/26-Hotel de l’atelier

(2009-11-24)
20091027012031(2).jpg

I don’t know if you know Avignon, but I know any Japanese know a song of Avignon Bridge.

The distance of Marceille and Avignon wasn’t long, so we arrived at Avignon soon.

Avignon station is modern. It seems like an airport. It is really cool.

We got on a taxi and went to a hotel, Hotel de l’atelier.
http://www.hoteldelatelier.com/

The name of the hotel was
It was built in 16th century.
It has a long history…
It was old but really charming.
I can understand why they still keep such an old building.

When we arrived at the hotel, a tour conductor was waiting for us.
Which tour was it?
We were planning to join a cycling tour!!!
How wonderful it is!!

There was a pretty patio in the hotel, and we had an orientation there.
The patio was covered with grape trees. It was really beautiful.
The sunlight was shining between the leaves and it made light and shadow.

The tour conductor was very friendly and polite.

He gave us maps and taught us the courses of cycling tour.
He also gave us some advices about food, a toilet, water, sightseeing spots, etc…
I felt like I had already ridden a bike.

Afterwards, we checked our bikes.
It was newer than I thought. And he gave us bottles for water. I felt like I was a bike freak.
Ito-chan and my bikes’ sizes were good for us, but Mike-san’s bike was smaller for him.
The tour conductor said he got back to his company and brought Mike-san’s bike the next morning.

I looked around the hotel afterward.
As I said it was really beautiful and cute hotel.
I shot a video, but I’m sorry I cannot show you its video.

The tour conductor came back soon.
According to him, the size of Mike-san’s bike was the same as ours but the tires seemed bigger.
He thought even if the bike was small for Mike-san, the bike would fit Mike-san because the tires were big enough.

Mike-san rode on the bike.
I think it seemed too small for him, but he said he tried it once.
I was worried about it. Because the bike tour was long and I had no skill to repair bikes.

FRANCE -10/26- CRUISE

(2009-11-23)
DSC00045.jpg
The coastline of Marsille is famous of beautiful rocks.

First, we saw ‘Chateau d’if’, which is famous with ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’ written by Alexandre Dumas-sr.
I didn’t read this novel but I saw its play. It was really exciting story, so I was interested in ‘Chateau d’if’.
Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to visit there. And I was scared visiting that island because many criminals were kept under restraint.

The coastline was made of caustic lime.
The coastline was white and steep.

I remembered the views of Glacier National Park.
It also has white and steep mountains.

I felt like I could see mountain goats on the cliff.

Some people were walking around this area. I knew there were some hiking courses there.
I wanted to do that, but as I said we didn’t have enough time…

The water of the sea was clean and clear.
It was a beautiful sunny day, so the color of the sea was completely blue.

Even if the sea was beautiful, three-hour cruise was a bit long.
And a man explained about the coast but it was in French, so the cruise was a little boring…

FRANCE -10/26- IN THE MORNING

(2009-11-22)
20091026003345(1).jpg
On the 26th.
We went to cruise.
I left the hotel and drove to Marseille Station by taxi.

While driving, I looked at a town.
I could see ordinary lives of people. I thought the town which I had seen the day before was only one part of Marseille. The town wasn't for a sightseeing spot. It was for citizens.

At the station, we dropped off our luggage again and went to the harbor.
It was a late morning, but we still saw some fishermen and fishes.
Some fishes seemed fresh but I didn’t believe that they sold fishes under the sunshine.
The fishes would go bad quickly.

Many kids were waiting for a boat at the harbor.
I was worried that I had to stay with them in a small boat but they got on another boat.
Our boat was bigger than I thought and there were more customers than I thought.
However, we could have good seats.
The cruise time was about 3 hours.

FRANCE -10-25- AT THE HOTEL

(2009-11-21)
We got off the subway at La Timone Station.

When we looked for a taxi, a taxi found us.

We were lucky..
If he missed us, we would have to waste lots of time to find a taxi.

We stayed at Hotel Kyriad Rabatau.
A room was too tiny for three adults but I like this hotel.
It was clean.

Ito-chan checked the news and told me the reason of many police men.

A game of professional succor game postponed because some players had the new type ful.
Many fans have already gathered at Marseille, so those fans acted violently.

Ah.
That’s why…

They bothered my trip.

I wanted to have dinner at a special restaurant but we couldn’t go back to the center of Marseille.
I had to give up bouillabaisse.
I was disappointed.

We decided to have dinner at the hotel.
I didn’t think the restaurant was good because it seemed poor..
But it was really good.
They have a cafeteria and a normal style restaurant.

I don’t like to pick up meals by myself, so I ordered a normal dinner.
Unfortunately I don’t remember what I ate.
I think I ordered some seafood.
Only one thing what I remembered is that their meals were really good.
Ito-chan. Mike-san.
If you remember what I ate, please tell me..

FRANCE -10-25-AT THE MARSEILLE STATION

(2009-11-20)
We went back to the center of Marseille and walked around a harbor.

There were many policemen in the area.
I will tell you about it later.

There were many stalls along the harbor.
All of them were souvenir shops. They sold soaps, some pieces of clothes, decorative object, etc. I thought they sold seafood but I couldn’t see any seafood.

I wanted to cruise along the shore, so I booked the cruise for the next day.
I could book them in French, so I was really happy.

That area was really crowded because of policemen but side streets were quiet.
I looked around there and looked for a restaurant for that night.

We got tired and Mike-san wanted to drink beer.
We looked for a place where we could drink.
However, the number of policemen has been increasing in next to no time.
I didn’t know what had happened but we gave up drinking and decided to go to a hotel.

The hotel was far to get there on foot or by train.
We wanted to take a taxi but we didn’t know if there was a taxi.
Even if there was a taxi, I didn’t think a taxi would be able to drive because of heavy traffic.

We decided to get on a subway.
I would go to the nearest station of the hotel and at that station by subway we would take a taxi or go to the hotel on foot.

We picked up our luggage and went to the subway station.
There still were many policemen.
Scary….
And some soccer fans gathered at the station.

The subway arrived at the station.
I didn’t know we would get on that subway, but just before the subway door closed, Ito-chan and Mike-san got on the subway.

I jumped into the subway.
But the door was closed…
Mike-san and some soccer fans tried to open the door violently.
And then, the door was opened. I could get on the subway.
I didn’t know what had happened to me but I could get on it anyway.

FRANCE -10/25-PALAIS LONGCHAMP=

(2009-11-19)
20091025223911(1).jpg
We arrived at Marseille station around 1:30P.M.

We left our luggage at the station.
The Coin lockers are curious for me.
There aren’t the coin lockers in the outside.
There are the coin lockers in a building, and before I go to the coin lockers’ room, I have to take a security check as at the airport.

They checked our bags by X-ray.

It was interesting….

Afterwards, we got on subway and went to ‘Palais Longchamp’.
Palais Longchamp was built in 17th century as a water-supply system.
It doesn’t seem the water-supply system because there were palaces on each side of the water-supply system.
It was really gorgeous.
There is a big fountain at the entrance. The carvings are enormous as the size of the originals.
I don’t know why ancient people had to build such a big system…

Nowadays, the palaces use for museums but we didn’t see them.

We had a break at a park contiguous to it.
The park was pitty big and many families stayed there and played.
It was a tradition family Sunday.
Ito-chan and Mike-san ate crepes and I ate a lemon flavor ice cream.
I didn’t want to eat an ice cream but I wanted to say, “Glace a le citron, s’il vous plait”.
The ice cream was too sweet.
Ito-chan’s chestnuts crepe was too sweet, too.

FRANCE -10/25- ON THE TGV

(2009-11-18)
20091025192414(1).jpg
strong>A A BAR ON TGV.
ONLY THE FIRST CLASS PASSANGERS CAN USE THIS BAR.

We went to the Lyon station by RER.
RER is one of the transportation systems in France.
I thought they ran often but they didn’t.
We had to wait more than 30 minutes at the station.
When we left hotel, we had enough time at the Lyon station, but we wasted a lot of time at the north station.

By the way, the stations in France are not polite for travelers.
They don’t have elevators and escalators.
And the distance of transfer stations is too far as Honmachi Station in Osaka…
I didn’t see guys who used wheelchairs.
I don’t think they don’t live in France. They cannot go outside because they cannot do anything on the outside.

Anyway, we arrived at Lyon Station.
It is one of the biggest stations in Paris.

We didn't have enough time at the station.
However, we had to print out our tickets.
There were many ticket machines at the station but we didn’t know how it worked.
And the touch screen didn’t work well. Even I touched it, it didn’t say anything.
I touched screen but I couldn’t print out.
The time passed too early.
I was really hasty.
Finally, Mike-san DID print out!!!
Thank you, Mike-san.

We grabbed our tickets and rushed to our train.
But we couldn’t find the train…
I don’t remember how we found it.
Just after we jumped into the train, the door was closed.
We were really tired…

The train was TGV, which is a rival of Japanese Shinkansen.
I wanted to get on TGV.
But I prefer Japanese Shinkansen.
It is more comfortable and clean. The size of seat of Shinkansen is bigger than TGV’s.
The Sinkansen seats turn and you can have seat of the opposite side of your friends easily.
Good things of TGV are that they have big tables and big luggage spaces, so you can have a party and you can keep your big luggage on the luggage spaces.

FRANCE -10/25- AT THE STATION -1-

(2009-11-17)
DSC00039.jpg
THE RESTAURANT OF THE HOTEL

On October 25th.

Today’s plan is going to Marseille.

In the morning, we woke up early and had breakfast at the hotel, Libertel Gare Du Nord Suede.
I didn’t remember about this hotel because I stayed there a short time, but Ito-chan likes this hotel because she said it was clean.

After we ate breakfast, we left the hotel and went to the north station.

At the station, my suitcase was almost stolen, a man picked up my suitcase, while Mike-san took a picture.
I screamed!!!
きゃぁぁぁぁ
I didn’t think I could scream. But in an emergency case, I can do anything.

He said sorry and he wanted me to bring it.
By the way, I don’t think he can steal it because my suitcase was too heavy to bring.

FRANCE -10/24- ON THE EURO STAR

(2009-11-16)
DSC00029.jpg

On the Euro Star, I had dinner. The first class seats included dinner and I booked the first class seat!!!

Unfortunately, I forgot what I ate.
It was a long long time ago…
Only one thing what I remembered is that I was already full because I ate too much in the airplane.
And the meal of Euro Star wasn’t better than the meals in the airplane.
Business class meals were used the first class foods.

At the north station in Paris, Ito-chan and Mike-san waited for me.
I was happy when I saw their faces.

Afterwards, we ate and drank at a café,
It was midnight but many people were still drinking at outside of cafes.
We also drank out side.
We are ‘Paris gens’!!
I drank a hot chocolate, and went to a hotel close to the station.

It was a really long day because that day was 32 hours,

FRANCE -10/24- AT THE AIRPORT

(2009-11-15)
DSC00028.jpg

EURO STAR

My flight was really fine but an accident happened afterward.

I would get on ‘Euro Star’.
Euro Star is a train that runs between London and Paris.

The last destination of my trip was Paris but my flight didn’t go to Paris and I wanted to get on Euro Star, so I decided to get on it.

However, I didn’t have enough time to transit.
A travel agency, H.I.S., recommended me to use a shuttle service.
According to H.I.S., the shuttle service brings me anywhere in London, and he said only if I got on the shuttle service, I would be able to get on the Euro Star.

I didn’t think so, but he worked a lot for me, so I decided to get on the shuttle service.

After I passed an emigration, I went to a counter of the shuttle service and showed my ticket.
A woman at the counter saw my ticket and said, “It is too late”.
She said the last shuttle had already left.
She called the company of the shuttle service but an answer was the same.
She said I should ask at an information counter and get on a mini cab.

I went to the information counter and asked about a mini cab.
A man said that there were many many cars in London, I wouldn’t be able to get on the Euro Star if I got on a mini cab, and I should get on a Heathrow Express.

I visited a ticket counter of Heathrow Express and asked the distance from the airport to the train station of the Euro Star, Saint Pancras.
She said it was about 30 minutes, so I bought tickets from Heathrow Airport to Paddington and Paddington to Saint Pancras.

A human can run faster than you think.

I ran faster than Carl Ruiz even I had heavy bags.

I asked any exits and forks in the road.
Every person in London was really polite.
When I asked them, they never showed me disgusting look on their faces.

When I left the airport, it was 6:15P.M., and when I arrived at Saint Pancras, it was at 7:10P.M.

I was really tired.

I took a break at the station and finally I got on the Euro Star!!!

October 24th
It was the first day of my trip.
I don’t like a long flight but I booked business class seats this time, so I was really happy!!!
The seat in the flight from Osaka to Soul wasn’t so wide but the seat in the flight from Soul to London was big enough.
It was really comfortable.
I could sleep as I was in my bed.
They served three meals in the flight. And they served one meal on the flight from Osaka to Soul.
I was too full.
The foods were really good.
