A MORNING MARKET

(2010-05-31)
There is a morning market at Nakanoshima in Osaka.
I knew that but I have never been there before.

I had a chance to go there last Saturday.
The market was smaller than I thought!
I thought the market was like the markets in France, but there were only about 10 shops at the market.
Even it was small, looking around the market was a big fun for me.
There were many local fresh vegetables, fresh eggs, Natto, etc.
We tasted many foods there, and we stayed there about 1 hour!!

You can find something new at the market.
You should visit there if you have time!

These are the pictures of dinner.
Appetizer
Carpaccio made with salmon and yellow tail.
The black source is a little bitter and sour. It was really good!!
R0011063.jpg

This is a fish dish.
Grilled black rockfish and a mousse made with scalloped, the source is made with butter.
The smell of butter reminded me of the smell of fresh bread.
R0011064.jpg

This is cheese fondu.
I have nothing to say about it.
I think Japanese like ‘Nabe’, so they also love cheese fondu!!!
R0011065.jpg

R0011067.jpg

This is roasted galeeny.
The galeeny macerated enough. The meat was very tender.
R0011068.jpg

The last one is of course dessert.
Kiwi sherbert, pudding, and mousse.
R0011070.jpg

R0011071.jpg

Can you believe this course is only 4500yen!!!

R0011054.jpg

I Went To French Restaurant, Imato-Mukashi, With one of my friends, Ding-Dong.

The restaurant is located very close to my office.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is homey.
There are two chefs and one waitress and all of them are really friendly.

We ordered ‘cheese fondu course’.
First, we ordered wine.
They didn’t have enough grass wine, so we ordered half bottle sparkling wine.

The chef was very polite.
While I took a picture of wine menu, he was waiting for me.
He brought me a bottle of wine to take a picture.
And he prepared a new bottle of wine to drink.

A SMALL CHAIR

(2010-05-28)
R0011072.jpg
Oh!
This small chair is really cute, isn’t it?

It is made of a sparkling wine bottle cap.

When I went to eat French, a chef told me about it.
He gave me two bottle caps.
According to him, I can make one chair with two caps.
I have to try making the small chair.
If I can make, I will show you.

Please wait!!

Good-by, Teacher Happy.

(2010-05-27)

Since I started to learn Chinese, I have met many teachers.
All teachers are very polite.
They are not my image of Chinese people.
That’s why, I have been able to continue studying Chinese, I think.
Learning Chinese and talking to the teachers are big funs for me.

This time, my favorite teacher, Teacher Happy, is going to leave the school.

I am really sad.

She is a student, and now learns at Kyoto University.

She goes to California as an internship student.

I am really sad…

The lesson on the next Saturday is the last lesson for us.
I want to talk to her plans in United States at the lesson.

Teacher Happy, thank you very much for a long time.

MAO'S CUP CAKES

(2010-05-25)
R0011048.jpg
These are Mao’s cup cakes.
She made them for me.
Unfortunately, she couldn’t bake them well, so they weren’t fluffy.
Even though, they were sweet, moist, and tasty.
I’m sure she will give me more tasty ones next time!

MITSUBACHI

(2010-05-24)
R0011004.jpg
Before I went back to my apartment, I took a break at Japanese sweets’ cafe, Mitsubachi’.

When I got there, it was full, so I had to wait for about 10 minutes.
Their special is ‘Anmitsu’.
I thought I had to eat Anmitsu, but I chose Zenzai…I love Zenzai…

This is their Zenzai.
It doesn’t seem special, but it was really good.
The hardness of each bean was perfect and its sweetness was enough.
Any Shiratama were not so soft but not so hard.
I still remember the texture of the beans….

By the way, the café is poplar.
After I took a seat, many customs visited this café and wait to eat.
Japanese people love Japanese sweets very much, I think, especially they love eat Japanese sweets in Kyoto.
The atmosphere of Kyoto makes Japanese sweets more delicious.

The 15th was really busy but very interesting day.

SIBATA ZESHIN

(2010-05-23)
R0010993.jpg

It was the time to go to see ‘Shibata Zeshin’.
Shibata Zeshin was not only an Urushi artist but also a painter.
Urushi means Japanese lacquer. He painted on board, or box, or texture with lacquer.
They sometimes were lacquer wares but sometimes were just an art.

They left many amazing works.
His motifs were fresh, and angle of his paints were creative.
He had a sense of fun, so his arts made me pleasurable.

The most amazing picture (NOT favorite) was a paint of vase.
I thought it was painted on a board. But according to the explanation of the picture, it was painted on a texture.
He painted lacquer on the texture, and then drew (or scratched) the grains.

I raised my hat to his work and his perseverance.

The animals of his works were really cute. I wanted to keep them in my apartment.

The exhibit will have done on 6th June.
If you have a chance to Kyoto, you might want to go.

SHOKOKUJI

(2010-05-22)
R0010992.jpg

I went to the Jotenkaku Museum afterwards.
The museum was not too far from the restaurant; about 15minutes on foot.

Now the museum has held the art of Shibata Zeshin.

There is the museum in Shokokuji temple.

I haven’t been to Shokokuji temple.
Before I looked at Shibata Zeshin, I looked at the temple.

Shokoku-ji temple is one of Rinzai Zen Headquarter Temple.
The construction was started in 1383 by Ashikaga Yoshimitsu.
Afterward some buildings in the temple were destroyed by fire several times.
But they still have amazing arts and beautiful gardens in the temple.

The most famous art of the temple is a ceiling art drawn by Kanou Mitsunobu.
It is big and dynamic!!
Unfortunately, taking photo is prohibited, so I can’t show you its photo.
There are many rooms in the one of the buildings.
You can see the beautiful and gorgeous sliding door pictures there.

Another special is a bathroom.
It was built around 1400 and rebuilt in 1596.
Its system is interesting.
There are two tabs in the building.
One tab was used for boiling water, and the other one was used for steam bath.
They poured the hot water on their body.
I haven’t seen this type of bath tab, so it was interesting for me.

Their gardens are also beautiful.
Please enjoy the pictures.

AOI MATSURI FESTIVAL -AOI SHO-

(2010-05-20)
R0010991.jpg

We had lunch at Aoi-Sho. It is a Japanese pickle shop.
These are the pictures of our lunch.
Unfortunately, their lunch was not so good.
All of them were too salty. There service was bad, too.
The number of our tour was about 30.
I know it is hard to prepare such many people’s lunch.
But our lunch time was really late, so they weren’t busy.
They missed some foods, so some customers got angry.
For example, they forgot to serve Chawan-mushi. A girl asked about Chawanmushi.
But it was already the time for dessert.
A waitress asked her if she wanted to eat dessert ahead of Chawan-mushi.
She smiled..
I never know the guy who wants to eat dessert in advance.
I couldn’t believe that the waitress asked such a silly question.

AOI-MATSURI FESTIVAL -4-

(2010-05-19)
Until lunch, I had a half hour for free time.
I just looked around Shimogamo Shrine.
When I go to Shimogamo Shrine, it is always on the New Year’s Day.
I don’t know other faces of Shimogamo Shrine, so looking around Shimogamo Shrine was a big fun.
However, there were too many people in Shimogamo Shrine, so I got tired soon.
Kyogen, which was one of the Japanese traditional plays, was also dedicated. I watched at Kyogen a little.
Many foreign people watched at Kyogen, too.
Some of them spoke Japanese really well. I think they are more familiar with Japanese cultures than I know.

Around 2:00 P.M., our tour headed to a restaurant.
Finally, we could eat lunch.
We had to walk about 15 minutes to get there. I think I can go there soon if it is not the day of the festival.

AOI MATSURI FESTIVAL -3-

(2010-05-18)
The festival was really interesting.
Almost all of guys who worked at the festival were not professional.
I mean they probably have other jobs.
Of course, it is true.
The festival has been held only once a year.

I think they didn’t practice enough.
They didn’t memorize their next steppes, so they always stool glance at the next guys.
Looking at them was really funny. They seemed like kindergarten children.

They brought two horses. I think they were professional.
They were really cute, beautiful, and gentle.
They walked around XXX and made a profound bow.

AOI-MATSURI FESTIVAL -2-

(2010-05-17)
Have you ever been to Shimogamo shrine before?
I have been there many times.
When my mom was alive, we visited there every new year’s day.
The approach to the shrine is long.
The approach brings you to ancient time.

I joined a tour.
About 11 o’clock, our tour went to the shrine.
When we got there, many people have already arrived and had seats.

The parade started at Gosho, and walked to Shimogamo shrine.
When they got at Shimogamo shrine, it was about 12 o’clock.

At Shimogamo Shrine, they had the ceremony.
They dedicated votive offerings, dances, music, and respects to God.

A man told us each process, but I couldn’t understand what his meant.

I know it was a sacred ceremony, but also I know it was just a festival.
Latest people don’t believe this kind of god.
It is just a sightseeing event.

Anyway, looking at those processes were really interesting.
I could see many strange ceremonies.

AOI-MATSURI FESTIVAL -1-

(2010-05-16)
DSC_4357.jpg
I went to see Aoi-Matsuri Festival on 15th May.
When I saw Aoi-Matsuri last year, I saw it at Gosho(Imperial Palace), but this time I saw it at Shimogamo Shrine.

It is said that Aoi-Matsuri started in 6th century.
A windstorm attacked. People thought it was a curse of God of Kamo.
One day in April, people held a festival, which men rode on horses decollated with little bells, and ran.
The windstorm stopped, and then they got a good harvest.

There are many legends in Japan, and it is one of them.

There are many processes in Aoi-Matsuri.
Last year, I saw a parade, and this year I saw a ceremony called ‘Shatou-no-gi(the rite held in front of the shrines).

SPA WORLD -3-

(2010-05-14)
I tried, a sauna, a mist sauna, a steam sauna, a muddy pack, a bubbling bath, a normal bath, etc.
Of course, I washed my body and hair several times.

Finally, it was the time to go to a massage.

Until getting a massage, I took a rose bath and a bubbling bath.
Only the people who will get a massage can take those bathes.
Ummm. Comfortable.

The massage started.
A lady rubbed my body with good smelling oil.
My bones and muscles made strange noise several times.
The lady said your body was screaming, so you had to take care of your body.

Afterwards, she washed my hair and rubbed my head and hair.
It was the first experience in my life.
She also massaged my neck.
All parts of my body refreshed.

I wanted to eat something at Spa World because I was really hungry.
However, I knew the restaurants in Spa World weren’t so good.
I got back to my home town, and ate ramen and Karaage.

It was one of the most relaxing days in my life.

SPA WORLD -2-

(2010-05-13)
Afterwards, I tried many bathes.
All of them were really…. strange…

For example..
There is an aquarium in a bath.
I could see fishes while taking bath.
However, I couldn’t find out the reason why they made this kind of bath.

Another strange one was a spicy bath.
It was called, ummm… I forgot, but it had a meal name, like Kimuchi bath or something.
They had a strange show and they put red and black water in a bath tab.
According to a girl, these two types of water might make our body hot.
And after she poured those waters, she stirred the water by a big shrimp!!!

You probably will not be able to imagine.

I also can’t believe that event.

SPA WORLD -1-

(2010-05-12)
What did you do during the golden week?
I didn’t do anything special, but I did a couple of things.

I visited ‘Spa World’ on the second May.

Spa World is a super-sento (a special public bath).
They have two types of public bath, European style and Asian style.
This month, European style bath is used by women and Asian style is used by men.
The next month, it switches.

The entrance fee is for 2000yen. It is very expensive.
But now they have held a ‘1000yen campaign’, so it was very crowded.

By the way, I have a discount ticket, so I can go there for 900yen anytime…

First of all, I booked a ‘massage’.
The reason I visited Spa World was a massage.
I have gotten a massage at Spa World once before, and I couldn’t forget the experience of that time.
I felt like I was a princess.
So, I tried to go to see a massage one more time.

I had about 2 hours until the massage, so I enjoyed taking bathes.
There are many bathtubs in Spa World.
The first one which I tried was a ‘honey bath’.
Some honey melted in a hot water. It smelled really good.

The guide gave me much information about them.

I was really interested in their works and the guide’s information.

One thing I thought I was lucky was that I had learning Chinese and I was reading about Kentoushi.
So, I could enjoy Chinese works. If I don’t have any knowledge about them, I couldn’t enjoy like that.

This time, I joined a guided tour.
This tour is very useful.
A tour guide taught me the differences between these countries’ ceramics.
And also they told me how to develop the ceramics techniques.
I obtained a discerning eye.
If you have a chance to visit there, you should join this tour.

These are the collections from Korea.

CAKES

(2010-05-06)
These are the cakes, which I ate lately.

R0010674.jpg
I ate the first one at a café close to ODONA.
That is my favorite café. I visited there several times.
The reason I like that café is the atmosphere of the café.
I feel the café is one of my rooms, and I can stay as long as I want.
Of course, their cakes and tea are really good.
I don’t know why that café is not always crowded.

R0010738.jpg
The second one is my friend’s recommendation.
One of my co-workers bought this one, and he said I should buy and eat it.
It is 660yen, but I didn’t think it was worth to eating.
I prefer cheaper one.

R0010780.jpg
The third one is the one I always wanted to buy.
I sometimes pass through this shop, and I always thought it seemed delicious.
However, when I pass through this shop, it is always in the morning, so I can’t buy it.
A few days ago, I had a chance to buy it, and finally I ate it.
I was really satisfied because it was enough sweet, enough big, and enough delicious.
They have a strawberry one, so I want to try the strawberry one next time!

KAIYUKAN -2-

(2010-05-05)
R0010761.jpg

R0010750.jpg
The most popular animal at Kaiyukan is Sunameri( a porpoise).
They came from the Toba Aquarium.
The reason that they are popular is they are really cute and friendly.
The first time when I saw Sunameri was about 20 years ago.
I saw them at the Toba Aquarium. They were really cute and I stared at them for a while.
However, at that time, I didn’t see other guys who were interested in Sunameri.
They were very minor animals.
But now, they are the most popular.
I wanted to take a picture of them but they swam really fast, so I couldn’t take pictures.

R0010777.jpg

Now, Kaiyukan has held a shark special exhibit.
You can learn the shark’s ecology.
In addition to this, you can touch sharks if you want.
Of course, I tried!
They had several kinds of sharks, included raies.
I touched all of them.
I could find many differences.
Some of them are slimy, some of them are like rubber.
And of course, some of them are Samehada (rough skin).

I enjoyed a lot.
The night Kaiyukan was very exciting!!!

KAIYUKAN -1-

(2010-05-04)
Did you go somewhere during the golden week?
I didn’t go outside of Osaka but I visited a few places.

This is one of these.
I went to the aquarium, Osaka Kaiyukan, on 29th April.
I like zoos or aquariums, so I have visited Kaiyukan several times before.
R0010744.jpg

This time I visited there in the evening.
I wanted to see a night museum. I wanted to observe their lives.

The big difference between the day time and the night time was that many fishes were sleeping at night.
Even though they opened their eyes, they didn’t swim or move. They just were floating or sinking.
I could take good pictures because they didn’t move.

R0010747.jpg

R0010763.jpg

R0010773.jpg

Only spider crabs were dancing.
I think their life time is night.
When I see them at the day time, they don’t move. I thought they always didn’t move, but now I know they are the nocturnal habits.

R0010765.jpg
Do you think he knows his name?

GODAILLE -2-

(2010-05-03)
R0010661.jpg

When we visited there, nobody was there.
And while we were there, nobody came to the restaurant.
I was worried about it.

After I got back to my apartment and checked the restaurant.
According to some website, that restaurant is very popular.

The chef said, “Thank you” several times.
It is because this restaurant is hard to find.
We wanted to go to another restaurant, but when we arrived at that restaurant, it was too early and they didn’t open.
While we were waiting for opening that restaurant, we found Godaille.
The chef said that normally a chance customer didn’t come to that restaurant.
I agree him because, as I said, it was hard to find, and I couldn’t see a menu card outside of the restaurant, so we would never know what we could eat in the restaurant.

Lately, I visited many French restaurants and all of them are really good.
If you want to eat something new, I recommend you to visit Godaille!
R0010658.jpg

R0010660.jpg

GODAILLE 1-

(2010-05-02)
R0010671.jpg
I want to delete some pictures, so today’s topic is one of French restaurants.
This is a French restaurant, Godaille.
It is located close to the Utsubo Park.
I don’t know why, but there are many European food restaurants around that area.
When I studied French, I found some of them.
Those restaurants seemed very stylish, but I always didn’t see many customers.

And ‘Godaille’.
They are a really good restaurant. And their foods are very creative.
I want to introduce their dishes.

R0010666.jpg
This is a soup.
Can you expect what it is made with?
It is a strawberry soup.
I sipped it but I didn’t eat it, so I didn’t remember what it was like, but Swimmer said, “It is a home run!!!”.

R0010667.jpg
This is a crape made with buckwheat. Lately, buckwheat is very popular in Japan. It is a salad and I felt I would be healthier because I took many spinaches.

R0010668.jpg
This is a chicken grunt sauté.

R0010669.jpg
And this is my favorite, triglidae.
The soup is really tasty.
They give these two dishes a spicy flavor.
But I have never eaten like the second one before and I really like it.

R0010670.jpg
This is a honey tasted chicken and sour flavor sweet potatoes.
You might want to eat them one after the other.
These both extreme flavors are sensational.

BRASSERIE LE ARGENT

(2010-05-01)
R0010725.jpg

I went to French restaurant, Le Argent with Swimmer.
It is located close to Temmabashi station.

I knew this restaurant but it was the first visit.

They have some course meal menus and one-plate foods.
They recommended their special menu, so we ordered that one.

The atmosphere of this restaurant is very friendly. You don’t have to wear a special costume; you can visit there wearing T-shirt.

They have some wines.
On the menu card, I can only see the word, 'wine’, so I didn’t expect the wines.

However, they have really good wines.
The chef is also a sommelier.
So, he chooses the best matched wine with their meals.

These are our dishes.

R0010728.jpg
A quiche

R0010729.jpg
Marinade salmon
(There is cheese inside of a cream puff. The chef made this cream puff for the wine.)

R0010730.jpg
Bouillabaisse soup
OH! I remember the time when I visited Marseille!!!

R0010731.jpg
Japanese sea bass.
It was very mild. I could feel rich fresh cream.

R0010733.jpg
sherbert

R0010734.jpg
Main dish

R0010735.jpg
desserts; a cheese cake, ice cream, pie made with apple and mousse

R0010736.jpg

All dishes were really creamy and rich taste.
My favorite one is fish.
The sauce was a full-bodied flavor.
It was tres tres bone!!

And I also loved a cheese cake.
The surface of the cake was a little crispy and inside was very soft.

R0010732.jpg

The wine I drank the second was the best wine I have ever drunk.
(I don’t drink wins, so I have drunk less than 10 kinds of wins, though.)
You can smell a deep flavor.

I like this restaurant.
One bad point was other customers.
One group was very loud. So, I had to speak loudly.
And other bad point was the plates.
They used cute plates, but all of them were a little dirty.
I wanted to wash those plates, but it was OK.

And I want to say about the chef.
He was a really good chef.
He was friendly and talked about many experiences in Europe.
While I talked to him, I remember my trip to France.
And I imagined my next visit to Europe.

They also have lunch menu.
Next time, I want to try their lunch.
