As I said I saw ‘The Man(sono-otoko) at Shin-Kabukiza.

The original story was written by Ikenami Shotaro and a stage director is Lasalle Ishii.
I saw Lasalle Ishii’s play once before and it was a good stage, so I wanted to see ‘The Man’.

The story is about a man, Toranosuke, who lived from the end of Edo era to Taisho.
When he was a boy, he was suicidal, but a man, a Master, saved him.
He said to Toranosuke, “You are not the same boy as before you suicide.

Tranosuke became a young man.
At that time, Japan was a crumbling.
Any men worked for their beliefs but only Tranosuke had to live for his happiness because it was his Master’s wish.
But when his wife was killed, he changed his mind and went to Kyoto to change Japan.

The last part of this play, Toranosuke met a man who had killed his Master.
He tried to kill him but he couldn’t, because he knew it was silly to kill him.
When his Master died, he didn’t tell the name of killer. He didn’t want Toranosuke to kill someone for him.

The stage set was really beautiful.
Mr. Ishis didn’t use so many sets, but he used them effectively.

The play was a little long, but I wasn’t bored.
He is one of my favorite produces.
